First Burn In New Smoker - Wood Only?

I just built my new offset smoker, I've made a baffle for it and im ready to go.

The instructions for the smoker say (and I quote) "before you can use the grill-lok in all its versatility it must be burned in. Use wood from trees for firing up and let this burn in both drums for up to 2 hours. This ...

Re: Offset Smoker Mods for a newbie.

Thanks for this guys top tips. Realise now that tiles need to go in the smoker not firebox! Hopefully this will help the landmann hold high temperatures a bit better. I saw this great video on YouTube about tile mods for an offset smoker, the tile baffle should help with the left/right temp ...

Re: Offset Smoker Mods for a newbie.

Line the bottom of the smoker or drip tray in foil to save on cleaning up.

I also put some ceramic floor tiles in the bottom of mine to help maintain heat and made a fire basket out of some chicken wire to hold the charcoal better.

Re: First time smoker. Advice on thermometers and fuel.

That thermometer cost half what I paid for my smoker so it's bit over budget for me Im afraid! I found this one which ...

First time smoker. Advice on thermometers and fuel.

Hi Everyone,

I have just ordered a Landmann Tennessee smoker. From searching on here I know some people on here have some issues with them, but it really seemed the best available for my budget and ideal to get me started.

I have sent a message to Paul at bbqsmokingwood for a selection box as he ...

Hello Everyone

Hi,

I've been barbecuing (or grilling over coals) for years, and have just ordered my first smoker. Doing this more as a bit of fun (and to make some great food!) than mega-seriously. Have signed up for some hints & advice, which I will post separately.
