Update, first "proper" smoke!
Did our first proper cook yesterday. Smoked a small pork butt and a small rack of breast ribs. Turned out really well!
Still having slight problems controlling temperature, it sat reasonably well around 275 with both 3/4" ball valves fully open. We did have to unscrew ...

Yeah, the problem is that we have a very, very narrow drum. All the washing machine drums I've been able to find have been around the same width as the pro-q charcoal basket.

Is that a ProQ charcoal basket? if so how does it hold up in a UDS?

First foray into BBQ - UDS Build! (With pics!)
Hi guys,
After acquiring the BBQ bug last summer after a trip to Austin, I've been wanting to build a UDS for quite some time.
The weather has been absolutely rubbish lately - but last weekend, we finally had a decent day without rain!

First of all, great site you have going here, I've found loads of useful information browsing the forums!
I have a question regarding steel drums for a drum smoker build. I live in west London (hammersmith area), and I've been having some troubles finding an unlined steel drum.
