Re: Pork Shoulder Cooking Times?

Sorry guys I forgot to update this on the day! Dues to issues getting the smoker up to temp initially, time flew by and as such I couldnt leave the shoulder in for the time required to get it to pull. All in all it made a very nice sliced pork though and went down very well with the family although ...

Re: ProQ Frontier

I have a ProQ Frontier and as a starter smoker it was far more wallet friendly for myself than the WSM at the time. The actual smoker is nicely built and quite sturdy, the only downside being the temp gauge which on mine is about 25f out at all times. The smoker comes apart nicely for cleaning etc ...

Re: Hi from hertfordshire.

So bunter....

How did the cook go?

Paul

The cook went well but due to some issues getting the smoker up to temp, I am still on a learning curve myself, it went very well. I ended up with sliced pork due to time constraints but had i left it the extra hour or two i think it would have turned ...

Re: Pork Shoulder Cooking Times?

Always remember, bbq is done when it's done, not when the timer buzzes. Use your temp probe to tell you when it's ready (same goes for foiling, if I'm foiling, I do it at 150 IT)

Leftovers - your imagination run wild! Anything that meat goes on, pulled pork works with, it seems. I love to pile hot ...

Re: ProQ Frontier Temp?

I'm no expert with heat beads or your smoker, but if you are struggling to get temps up with all vents open, I'd try adding more lit coals. Doesn't look like you have tons on there.

I think you are right, the coals that i did put on were not hot enough. I have since put three fire lighters ...

Re: ProQ Frontier Temp?

I have just put 3 Heat Beads fire lighters underneath the full fire basket and it seems to working a little better. I think that although the beads in my chimney starter looked like they were ready, maybe they were not.

I do know however that the temp gauge on the top of the Frontier is a pile of ...

ProQ Frontier Temp?

I am actually struggling to get the temp over 160f at the moment using heat beads and the minion method for lighting, it just will not get to 225f not matter what i do!?

I just dont get what I am doing wrong? I have even resorted to putting firelighters on top of the heat beads
