I'm at the burnt out stage with my and just trying to suss out what to use for a fire basket. And I must say I love the washing machine drum idea. How much space is left in the drum.

Re: Have I missed anything?
Ben, if you like smoking different things together at once here's a thing to consider before you build your smoker, its not technical, just an idea I wish I had incorporated before I built mine.

Building an offset smoker
After researching smokers a bit I thought it would be fun to have a go at building my own smoker.
I'm thinking of having a 200ltr drum connected to a 25ltr one for the fire box by a short piece of pipe. And then a flue on the opposite side of the big drum. Does this idea sound feasable? Is there ...

Welcome onboard Ben,
You have a decent Butchers not far from you called Owen Taylors, they should be able to supply you with the cuts of meat you need to practice with.
I am from the other team not far from you.
Enjoy the forum, look forward to your posts. If we can help, just shout.

Hi from Derbyshire
Hi there I'm Ben, I live in Ripley near the derbyshire/notts border and love having a bbq and want to take it further, maybe eventually once I have mastered smoking enter competitions.
I like the look of offset smokers and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good model? Thanks in advance
