Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

Thanks JEC, RobinC, I will get my thermometer off the lid and see how it is in boiling water. If it's off can it be adjusted?

Thinking about where it was when I was cooking the chicken, it would have been in the middle right over the indirect area, I had the coals on left and right sides.

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

JEC - No I haven't checked the lid thermometer in boiling water, I'll try and do it this week. Does it just unscrew to get it off the lid?

Keith - I LOVE the soft and juicy fall-off-the-bone baby backs you get in decent american restaurants! We have had decent ribs before from Waitrose in Stevenage ...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

So I had a successful weekend as far as first attempts go!

Eased myself into it yesterday with a few burgers, sausages, and chicken kebabs. And that went well so I had a go at beer can chicken today!

Here's the before and after pics...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

Thanks bencops.

I just assembled it so I'm ready to roll!

A medium size chicken should take what... About 90 mins? What temperature should I be aiming for?

Just check it's done by sticking it and checking for clear juices?

Do you recommend using the two Weber grates and cooking in the middle ...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

My new Weber Performer is still boxed in the garage, but I hope to assemble it tomorrow and hopefully get it going on Sunday.

I haven't read the manual yet but I'm guessing I need to fire it up with no food first off? Is it just a case of getting it nice and hot and then shutting it down?

I think ...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

Well I was in the shop getting a one touch premium. By the time I added a chimney starter, side table, lid rack (I did really like that), utensil hooks I was up to around £250. The Performer retails at around £400 but I got them down to £310 including a couple of gas canisters. So went for that!

I ...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

I got a good deal on the Performer in the end...the one with the trolley and gas ignition system.

Just gotta wait for it to stop raining!!

Cheers all, I am sure to be back with questions once I have assembled it!

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

Thanks guys, I am definitely Going to go for a weber one touch 57!

For those of you in the UK.... I get 20% discount at John Lewis so I figure I will get it from there. They have two models... One touch gold at £160 and one touch master touch at £220.

The product details didn't really state what ...

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?

Yes I was guessing that would be the one to go for.

Not worth considering the 67cm?

I was definitely looking at the premium model. Very tempted to look at the one with the built in table (performer?) but starting to get pricey.

However, I would need a chimney starter, plus a table or two, so ...
