Re: pulled pork advice

Thanks for the advice everyone.

So seeing as a few of you reckon 10 hours and another recommends 6, maybe I will settle on 8 ;)
Maybe foil after 4 hours?

My bbq isn't amazing to put it nicely. Its a horizontal drum type bbq, that I have attached a thermometer to and added some air holes that I can ...

Re: Basics....

Yes it's a horizontal one, I'll upgrade it at some point soon.
I'll try the minion method with it and I'll just have to keep an eye on the temps. As long as its within a desired range I guess that'll be cool. I'm gonna be on a camping trip doing it, so it gives me an excuse to sit around and play ...

Re: Basics....

Ah, yes just checked out the minion method that makes sense.
I'll double check what the type of charcoal I have to make sure its the correct type.

So if using the minion method....

Yesterday night i added a whole chimney starter fuel of lit coal. I am guessing I could use 3/4's of a chinmney ...

Re: Basics....

Well, to start with I just added lit coals via a chimney starter. I was thinking if the temp drops and i need to raise it I will just add some unlit charcoals on top of the already lit ones. When I actually come to cook something I have some foil trays underneath the meat, is this what you mean my ...

Re: Basics....

So.... I had a test run yesterday night.

Added a thermometer to the bbq and drilled some holes in the base next to where the coal will sit.

When I added the coals in after lighting them the temperature rose straight to about 400 and then settled down to roughly 300. This gradually went down as a ...

Re: Basics....

Yer I think I am going to create a vent at the bottom of the bbq as well, more than likely will just drill some holes into the bottom.
