If it is any good, added to the Aldi stick thermometer it could be a good starting set till one could afford better.

I'll be getting both for my daughter (assuming stocks last) so I'll let you know what they are like.

Okay, the Lidl (remote receiver) is a neat piece of kit, obviously designed for indoors, but it worked from a ziplok bag in the garden so that's that problem solved. It has been set up to work within a range of temperatures, the lowest (fish) is 131F the highest (well done beef) 176F. However it can be manually set from -47 to 300C. Checked against the trusty Thermapen it was 1 degree C out. There is also a 99 minute countdown facility.
The Aldi (stick thermometer) was matching the pen exactly and although I didn't time it it was very quick to read, probably quicker (it seemed) then my Weber stick. It has a rubber cover for the point which is good if you want to carry it around with you.

Both will read C & F so all in all not too shabby to start off with.

No, but not as expensive either. I haven't timed it but it is quick, as I said quicker then the Weber and certainly quick enough for convenience. It's quicker then the Maverick, my Amazon cookery thermometer and the Lidl and only £7.99
