Getting a bit worried! No wireless thermometer

Postby stinkatron5000 » 03 Jan 2018, 23:00

I’ve been dreaming about setting up a cook tomorrow but the more I read, the more I worry that I haven’t got a leave-in thermometer.

I have a digital thermometer but not one that could be left in for constant monitoring. Was hoping to smoke a pork butt or brisket but not sure if it’ll work.

Have a virgin Slow N Sear for the Weber and a box of whiskey cask chunks.

Any advice would be awesome.

As a newbie myself, I did my first cook (a pork butt/shoulder) without a leave in thermometer.
I had no problem. Quite a forgiving cut of meat anyway and despite my smokey mountain not holding the same temperature throughout the cook the pulled pork was delicious.

You should be fine wihtout one! Just have a probe ready so you can check when your meat is at the perfect temp to take off the grill!

Hi Bobsy,

I needn’t have worried. I’m not exactly aiming for competition grade ‘que at the moment and the Slow N Sear held a pretty solid 250 once everything settled down. Would like to do a brisket next!!
