Now this is a lot more complicated and is a question that has been debated furiously on this forum.

If doing low and slow I prefer briquettes and although it is hard for a Saffa such as myself to admit, Aussie Heat Beads are by far the best I've used. I buy mine online in boxes of 4 x 4kg bags. If you spend over a certain amount you get free delivery too which takes them to under £6/bag which is great value. http://www.garden4less.co.uk/search.asp?term=Heat+beads

If doing hot and fast I use restaurant grade lumpwood. I often use Dorset Charcoal as they are local to me and great quality. http://www.dorsetcharcoal.co.uk/barbecue-charcoal.html
Everburning charcoal is pretty good and good value too. http://www.everburningcharcoal.co.uk

Whatever you do STAY AWAY from instant lighting stuff. :x :x :x
