lilac wood?

Anybody here smoked with lilac wood before? I've searched on google and found a few reports from overseas saying it's good for fish, lamb and cheese but not much from the uk, and not being a botanist or arborist I'm unsure whether their lilac and our lilac is the same... ?
I only ask as my neighbour had 3 lilac trees chopped down, so I pinched a fair bit of the wood to season (my daughters think I have a wood hoarding problem now as anytime anyone I know prunes their fruit trees I'm taking the wood and stashing it under benches in the garden, got a lovely cherry wood collection seasoning up well, and a few hazel and juneberry prunings too ). I'll use it for the fire pit if it's no good for food, but it would be nice if I could use it and smoke something for my neighbour as a thank you for all the free wood!
So, any thoughts on the common garden lilac tree as a smoking wood?
