Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommended or favourite Korean BBQ recipes they would be willing to share? Or decent online resources for Korean BBQ?

Cheers in advance :)

Hi Boris.

Have you tried any of the Hairy Bikers recipes? theres quite a few in their Asian adventure book. There's Belly pork recipe's, Octopus, BBQ pork steaks. I can't post much as I'm a new member, but will look for some recipes for you.

Look for Gochujang, its a Korean chilli paste.

Hi,
Although it may sound very obvious can you define Korean BBQ? Many years ago before I caught the BBQ bug I was taken to an "Korean BBQ" restaurant in Tokyo, this seemed to consist of an gas style bbq in the centre of the table and unidentifiable meat pieces delievered raw and we then botch cooked them with chopsticks.

I remember an exchange "what is this?" "beef" "err which bit?" ......."intestine"

Hence memories not great, can you give us an insight, answers such as "Korean food, cooked on a BBQ" need not apply!

Cheers

Thanks Flecam, will have a look at the Hairy Bikers recipes for some inspiration!

Tiny - quite right, was a tad vague with the request there! Got the brother in law & family coming round in a couple of weeks and we suggested some culinary themes, and they picked Korean BBQ. I too wasn't entirely sure what this meant at the time but with the power google I discovered that Korean BBQ is a rather diverse beast!

Grilled meats done at the table (preferably no intestine) along with a host of interesting side dishes.

So far I've found a couple of interesting recipes

I thought the definition was you all sat round and cooked to order, which would mean you all standing outside cooking (not so good at this time of year)

Could maybe do a variation which would be skirt steaks caveman style ? Marinade them in a soy, chilli type sauce overnight. Then heat the bbq until coals go white, blow off some of the ash and just lay down those skirt steaks straight down onto the coals for a minute on each side (the should sear straight away so you dont get ash) pull them off wrap in foil for a few minutes then serve.

hmmmm hadn't considered caveman style! Certainly a preferred steak cooking method, and will go down well I think, thanks UKEgger

Just had a look online and it seems like pretty standard fare :) A marinade I like is oyster sauce and minced ginger thinned out with a bit of light soy and sesame oil. Add a touch of black pepper too and use as a quick marinade for beef. Don't leave it too long as the soy and oyster sauce will be quite salty

I'm going to give this a try in the next couple of weeks

Lamb Bulgogi with Asian Pear Dipping Sauce
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/lamb-bulgogi-with-asian-pear-dipping-sauce-359749

Bulgogi (grilled marinated beef) is a traditional Korean dish. Here, lamb stands in for the steak. The meat is served with lettuce leaves

I got some ingredients via http://www.souschef.co.uk already in preparation, will let you know how it goes.

Hi

I know this is a bit late but how about Korean BBQ Beef short ribs "Flanken style" or Teriyaki grilled pork chops and also marinated grilled prawns - keep it simple.
