Yeah pretty much. You can get some special aluminium braising/welding rods, they're flux cored and I assume designed to melt at the right temp for ally.
There's loads of videos on YouTube showing how to use them. They're more expensive than the ally sheet though
Looking at what you are trying to do, a no weld/glue solution is possible, it might not be pretty that's all.
