That was their initial hope, but even second hand and with rust there still wasn't anything on Fleabay at their price range when you added collection costs. Thats why they were after something a bit cheaper to get started with.

Thanks to everyone who contributed or thought about it. They are now the possesors of a 53Cm Portland kettle BBQ, with an ash collecting device. They got that, a chimney starter, fire lighters, tools, cover, grill brush courtesy of Homebase's additional 20% off and stayed enough in their budget to pick up a couple of bags of quality briquettes elsewhere as well as some pork shoulder steaks.

Okay folks thinking caps on again (please :D )
I've been lucky in that the thermometers I have on my BBQs work fine, obviously the BBQ they got didn't have a thermometer fitted, can anyone recommend a thermometer brand they can either stick through the top vent or that can be fitted via a dtrilled hole as they would like to have a go at basic smoking.
As most of you know or have gathered my techie knowledge & abilities are limited to say the least so thanks in anticipation.

Cheers

Keith
