I bought this on my last trip to the US from possibly the most amazing cookshop i've ever seen called Sur-la-table. It cost around US$30.

One thing I like about this unit is that the probe can show the internal temperture of the meat, but also the oven temperature (I found that my domestic oven thermostat is way out!). You can set alarms for both too which can be quite handy for bbq if you are adjusting the vents yourself.

Not seen then for sale here, but did manage to google this place that will ship to the UK from the US:

Any questions, let me know :)

I got a few other bits and pieces while I was there (I could not resist - this shop is truly awesome). I'll post separately as time permits.

I just checked the UK/GBP price, and it's under £30. Is that right?

I thought these things were nearer £50.

The Maverick ET 72 is £50 but it has a remote receiver so you can sit in the comfort of your Chesterfield and monitor your temps. This is a probe & thermometer only so you'd have to slap the sunscreen on to check (we hope or put up the brolly more like ;) )

Mhh yeah, well if i'm feeling that lazy sometime in the future I might consider one

I note that this ET 72 does not have an external themometer for the oven/smoker chamber, while the ET-73 does.

Ah, that's great. If it's nice enough to barbecue I'll be in the garden anyway.

I really just want a thermometer to measure the temperature of my Weber a little more accurately than the one built into the lid. The one in the lid doesn't have a wireless transmitter either. :D

How much is postage?

That's the beauty of these 'remote systems'......you don't have to wait for decent weather. I, like many others q all year round, especially on Sundays...would much rather have a joint off the q than from the kitchen oven.
