A few weeks ago my mate and I started out on what would become our 5000 mile US road trip. We hired a Dodge Challenger, 5.7ltr V8 Hemi if you're interested and in bright orange. I won't tell you all of the stories but the trip itself looked a little like this;
Day 1
Miami Florida, ate BBQ for dinner. Sonny's (anyone?) It was good and had pulled chicken which was delicious. Any thoughts on reproducing that?
Day 2
Miami FL to Portsmouth VA
Day 3
Portsmouth VA (via Washington DC) to Cumberland WV
Day 4
Cumberland WV to Indianapolis IN
Day 5
Made a lap of the speedway! Left there only to meet sheriff J W Pepper from the James Bond films. And thought that we would be seeing the jail. 100mph is alright isn't it? Eventually left Indianapolis IN to Joplin MO
Day 5
Joplin MO via Broken Arrow OK and Little Rock AK to Memphis TN. What a great night there with a car rally and some great BBQ in Beale Street
Day 6
Memphis TN via Nashville and Chattanooga TN then Birmingham AL to Montgomery AL. That was a wonderful piece of country to drive through.
Day 7
Montgomery AL to New Orleans A great night there staying the French Quarter
Day 8
New Orleans to Gainsville FL taking some lovely coast roads in!
Day 9
Gainsville FL via Naples to MIami FL through the Everglades.
20 states, 5000 miles about £700 worth of petrol, thank goodness it was about 63p/litre, some great food, a lot of laughs, a couple of brushes with the law and some wonderful memories.
Will we do it again? I sincerely hope so!
