Hey Guys,

Been looking at the forums for a while now but thought that it was time to get involved. Got a WSM and am looking for new recipes and any local advice for sourcing quality meat and interesting cuts to try out.

Hi!

For sourcing meats, get to know your butcher. If he/she's not helpful, find another butcher!

Although one of the things I love about BBQ is that you can take pretty much any cut of meat and BBQs make them magical :)

Happy smoking

Mike

Welcome aboard. As said local butcher or farm shops tend to be good places to get quality meat from. Costco and Booker/Makro are very good for some things like pork ribs, pork shoulders, smaller bits of brisket and sometimes beef short ribs.

Online butchers can be very good but also more expensive. check out Tom Hixson and Turner & George - both outstanding.

Welcome Niall,
I think you make 4 for the Pompey massive.I am in Cosham and there are lads in Baffins and Southsea. As for butchers get all of mine from Sheperds in Tregarroon Ave Drayton, the lads in there are interested and have sold me whole briskets and plenty of pork shoulders (ask for boneless collar joint)

So happy smoking and maybe if there are a few more of us we might finally get a BBQ eaterie in the town :)
Cheers
Tiny

Welcome to the forum
I'm in Fareham so that's another to add to the ones mentioned above.
I generally use Westlands Farm shop in Wickham/or Tulls in Wickham square. Westlands is cheaper though because it's their own produce and are pretty good if you give them a shout beforehand if you require anything in quantity.
Happy grilling.
