Hi All
My method on cooking Rabbit.
Shoot, gut, skin said bunny.
Wash with salt water and pat dry.
Rub with oil and your favourite rub then wrap with bacon.
Set smoker to 225-250 and smoke quite heavily for 2 hours.
Remove rabbit from smoker and foil with a splash of cider(large) and add some of your fav BBQ sauce.
Stoke up smoker to 300-325 and cook to internal temp of 150f.
Vent foil and remove rabbit
Finish said rabbit on the grill basting with Jus from foil, or more BBQ sauce to glaze, internal temp at thickest part of leg should be 160f.
Joint rabbit and serve with salad ,slaw and bread.

How do you obtain your rabbits? Do you shoot them yourself, or do a bit of ferreting?

I think the answer was in line 3 of the recipe, the part that started "Shoot...."

That doesn't mean he shot them himself. He may well have a mate who does a bit of pest control in the area

I am a Farmer and shoot for the table on a regular basis, if it swims ,fly's, hops or runs and it is edible, then it better watch out.

Nice. Do you use a shotgun, rimfire, or air rifle for the little bunnies?

For the bunnies I use a .177 air rifle, never been a big fan of shot in my meat, for feathers a 16 bore, Deer are shot with a 243.

From my experience it's generally Traffic Police who keep the pests at bay (pests in this case being tourists )

Is your air rifle FAC or under 12ft lbs? Been thinking of getting one if I can find a permission to shoot on.

Most modern air rifles knock out about 11lbs, this is enough for a good shot to hit out a rabbit at 30-35 yds, most people sight their guns in for that range, anything over that would maim not kill.
If you want to do some pest control make sure you get a lot of target practice in 1st, maybe join a local club if thre is one nearby.
Safe shooting is what it is all about, plus a clean kill!
