Welcome smoking in NI. I might be prepared to go in on splitting a load of charcoal. Any thoughts re type of charcoal and cost?

Hi Jimbo89
I was hoping you could give me some direction as to what is best in the line of charcoal. I just can't find good lump wood charcoal in N.I . I like to use charcoal but it seems to burn up very quickly .

I'm in the same boat been tring to find a supplier of restraunt grade charcoal. I can no longer get heat beads either as the English supplier I used will no longer ship to NI, apparently due to a change in legislation in relation to the transport of combustibles

Hi All

I'm new to the board here so apologies if below has already been covered off....

I use Hillmount Garden Centre in Castlereagh Hills for all things BBQ - http://www.hillmount.co.uk/ - they have pallets of Weber premium charcoal and premium briquettes. A tad pricier than the norm but the briquettes are just brilliant - if you can no longer source heat beads then go for these - they easily burn for 4 hours on longer cooks and for shorter cooks I close all dampers down and they can be reused which makes a 10Kg bag more cost effective. The Hillmount web site is just ok but I would advise you visit the centre - they have a great selection. They are well into their BBQ there and have a Weber BBQ academy located onsite

Makro also sell restaurant grade charcoal (Fuel Express) in bulk 12Kg bags. http://www.makro.co.uk/M093383.html
I haven't tried it though

Have you all tried Bio Char Ireland ..... here's what they say

"Our Lough Derg Charcoal is made from locally sourced timber within the environs of Lough Derg. Bear in mind most of the charcoal sold in shops comes from such far-away places as Africa, Argentina and China! Now that is not a very sustainable way to have a BBQ. Why not buy local Charcoal instead".

Not cheap but should be good quality
