macro frozen boxed ribs

has anyone had any experience with the frozen ribs from macro/bookers. i was looking the other day, they were in boxes of 10s. great if they are ok, not so good if they're not. i hope someone has tried them before i spend my money lol

If they are the ones I'm thinking of they were like supermarket ribs. No meat on. Didn't bother myself so don't know how they cook up.

I get the booker ones. They are fine and the price is good. They have various grades with more or less meat on them. You won't win any competitions, but they fill hungry bellies a treat. Great for parties.

There's loads of meat on the Belvedere Meaty Pork Spare Ribs (18118), in fact I spent longer trimming those than any others, the off cuts were excellent in Boston Beans. The 202 boxed spare ribs (493759) I last had were ok, easy to remove the membrane from and decent size racks, they went down well. I've not tried the semi-meaty ribs yet, but I'm going to try those next to see if they are a good compromise between the other two.

I usually get the 202 ones - AKA 'German' ribs. I asked the butcher there if there was much difference between these and the 'meaty' ones. He didn't seem to think there was. The loin ribs (baby backs) are OK too - not a huge amount of meat, but tasty, cook quicker, and tender.

I asked an assistant there to open the
box up and they were very thin looking. Defo not meaty.


Probably fine for a big party where quick and bulk is good.

No problem with them here, what alot of people do is buy one box, don't like them and label them all as crap.

Macro do a couple of options for frozen ribs, I know of at least three different options of 10kg boxes, which are roughly:
A-£20 - Skinny - Never bought them myself
B-£22 - decent amount of meat approx 10 racks, normally vary between 800g - 1,200g per rack, each box varies but still a good size no matter what you get
C- £30 - Effing huge racks, I've only had one box of these, and it had three and half racks, so roughly 3kg PER RACK

I have lost count of the amount of boxes bought and therefore racks of ribs I have cooked from from the £22 boxes. Never had any complaints and people at my last job were always requesting them, of the back of those ribs I have catered birthdays and a wedding.

So, I would say buy a box of £22, and be prepared to do 10 racks of ribs (you can freeze them once cooked) and make your own mind up, I don't think you'll regret it matey
