Smoked Cabbage Anyone

I was told about smoked cabbage a few days ago, kinda sounded interesting so am giving it a go, stuffed with bacon and onion and on the OTS set to smoke, takes about five hours - will see how it goes!! Anyone tried this? Will add some piccys when I can figure out how to add them!

After five hours cooking, first two hours open then wrapped up to steam

Ready to eat

Turned out kinda good, the top (the core end) was a little firm/crisp so could perhaps have done with another hour cooking, nice mild smokey taste (had some Hickory in with the charcoal). Will do this again!

Cant say it appeals to be honest although the bacon may be the saving grace!

interesting thought and it got me thinking...an onion with the middle scooped out and filled with a bacon/jalapeno/cheese mixture sounds like a plan to me

It does sound like it is worth a try. I would have thought It may need something on the outside to keep it together - A cabbage slow cooked for 5 hours with nothing to support it would probably either blossom like a flower, slowly dissolve through the cooking grate or go as tough as leather! I guess it would depend on the cabbage. Sounds as if it could be tasty though...
