My favourites are Supagrill Cocoshell briquettes or locally sourced restaurant grade lumpwood charcoal. Normally I use lump for smoking and briquettes for grilling but both are fine for either. You will get loads of opinions on this one.

Depends if you are looking to grill or smoke, restaurant grade lumpwood in 12kg sacks is a good place to start if you have or know anyone with a booker or costco card.

I use the blue bag lump Toby suggested either from Booker or mail order from Liverpool Wood Pellets. For grilling I have used lump and cocoshell briquettes quite a lot, both of which are good.
Now for briquettes, I tend to go for heat beads. They're as good as any briquettes I've used and we were getting them at comps over the last two years so I've got used to them.
