Argh, people who don't eat 'spice' (whatever the hell the mean by that) are a pain in the arse. I've been asked a few times "Can you make it without spice? X is coming and they don't like it" to which my response is usually telling them to sod off and cook it themselves. I'm not sacrificing a few kilos of pork just because of one picky eater!

Totally agree, give em the 10p Iceland burgers! I think that people whi say they don't like spice usually really mean they don't like chilli  I mean how can you not like spice...... spice = flavour!

Yeti & Dave, I think the nail has been firmly hit on the head. I don't go a bundle on hot chilli, my limit is around Nando's medium/Garlic sauce. I have eaten Jamaican food with Scotch Bonnets in them but the cook slit the peppers so the flavour came through but none of the heat. To say you don't like "spices" generally means "hot!" I don't eat curry, in general, as I don't like most commercial curry/garam masala blends. In a past life I had an indian neighbour who showed me how she made curry and it was delicious, our friends in Wales cooks a fantastic curry without heat but a magnitude of flavour. So I like spices but not what most people would (non forum members of course) call spicey.

Unfortunately for these two picky eaters spice extended to anything that produced any kind of heat whatsoever, so paprika and black pepper were thrown out of the window too! I don't eat anything crazy hot these days, I went through a hot sauce and chilli phase where everything was nuclear, but when you have to plan the next morning around that inevitable trip to the bathroom then you should realise that it's time to stop

The hottest ingrediant we ever had in our house was white pepper & HP sauce. I didn't get my first taste of "heat" till my early twenties.

Haha my dry rubs have paprika, pepper and a little chilli, she doesn't mind those and if its slightly hot to me then its stripping the inside of her mouth.
She's getting better and with the pulled pork if the bark is spicy then she'll just eat the meat with no bark. im lucky in that she'd never say no to what I cook and does try nearly everything. :D The arsenic burgers are cooking right now for her :o

I don't like the "oh no cant even eat korma" and "chicken tikka masala is like hot coals" people, just don't understand what heat they are getting. I love some heat but have toned it down a touch for my bbq as im new to it im enjoying the flavours rather than melting my tongue but I will turn up the heat occasionally when its just me and some mates and no kids and/or women ;)

HP sauce Keith, I remember when that had a bit of a kick to it aswell, not the same anymore or my taste buds are totally immune to it now.
I love Franks hot sauce and had a mate round for a bbq that said he couldn't do hot sauce, I did some in a pan with some butter for pulled pork and he loved it, some people are more scared of the words "hot sauce" and wont even try them.

Luckily (?) for me my dad loves spicy food, so whenever we went for curry when I was a kid and my dad ordered vindaloo I would do the same
