Sending Food?

I've tried a search but keywords of 'Mail' and 'Send' bring back loads of results about e-mails and sending wood out

Just wondering if anyone has experience of sending food or 'relief parcels'. Got friends and family up north that want me to do them some ribs but they are 230 miles away and I don't think they'd like the delivery fee.

I've got a vacuum packer packer and just wondering about sending up some cooked ribs and maybe some raw sausages.

Any ideas?

Royal Mail advise:

Perishable items Including flowers, fresh fruit, vegetables and frozen or chilled foodstuffs.

Should be able to withstand a journey of up to 48 hours. Use 1st Class as the minimum service. Must be suitably sealed to prevent leakage or tainting of other items such as in sealed vacuum packs. Must be packed in a strong corrugated board box or purpose designed polystyrene pack. The sender’s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.

Frozen water and dry ice are prohibited.

I order quite a lot of meat online and get it delivered and don't have any problems, but they're always shipped in polystyrene boxes with ice packs on a next day service and it's fine.

I tried to buy some poly boxes and gel ice packs to do the same thing for my family, but it all worked out too expensive.

They now bring down a ton of meat with them when visiting for the weekend, get it cooked in the smoker and take it home with them...well, most of it
