Hi Guys
So I finished making my horizontal oil drum bbq/grill/smoker but while I was burning it out for the first time to get rid of the outer paint and inner crud I had the lid wedged open with a piece of wood but when it slipped and the lid closed the fire started to go out. I obviously need some air intake holes but don't want to add too many, any suggestions please.

Re: Air vents
I haven't made a drum smoker or anything yet but i'd definitely want a couple below the fire basket to get the air flow onto the charcoal and one on the top as an exhaust to let out some smoke.
Don't know your set up but that's what id be looking at doing.

Re: Air vents
I'd put two on the bottom and possible two on the top, I'd use a 1" plumbing valve, the quarter turn type with the lever to make turning easier. Put one in each corner and you should be fine.

Thanks or the replies.
This link shows pretty much what I have built but without the firebox on the side, I have already built a UDS but had another oil drum and some left over mesh so thought I may as well build a grill
