Has anyone tried a Boston butt from both suppliers?
I have done one from turnerandgeorge.co.uk but had to spend ages trimming I reckon probably nearly 1 KG of fat/rind first.
The meatpacks.co.uk says rind removed... so wondered if the price = approx. the same afterwards or if the turner and george one is better quality.
http://www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/pork/pork-butt.html 4KG with rind @ £32
http://www.meatpacks.co.uk/Pork/BostonButt 3KG rind removed @ £19.95

I've also seen this and looks good for price, just the website looks cheap, so a bit hesitant on using them until people can vouch for them.
It might sound lazy but if it comes (properly)trimmed it would save me time plus after trimming approx 1 KG worth of fat/rind I feel robbed as it's part of the price/KG.

Seems to be the thing with T & G...... FAT!
My butcher mate said he would send them back to the wholesaler if they were too fat but if you can get good money per KG for fat as well as meat then numpties like us will keep getting caught

I had a Boston butt from T&G couple years ago now, don't recall an excess of fat on it. I didn't trim any off, this was just for roasting in the oven like for 4 hours.
Places like T&G and other high end meat suppliers will usually have more fat left on than you see in supermarkets and most butchers, but then I think those places trim too much fat off!
I once bought some sirloin from a farm shop and the butcher had trimmed all the fat off!? I was in disbelief...
You should see pics of the pork Pit-Cue post on Instagram, the fat to meat ratios on those are bordering on insane

Boston butt doesn't need much fat left on though, as it's quite a fatty meat so I would rather not pay for a KG of fat if I can avoid.
I'm guessing no one has ordered a Boston butt from meatpacks.co.uk then?

Good lord! Find yourself a local butcher who can supply the same cut. £8/kg from T&G is shockingly expensive

This is correct, I got a 6.3kg neck end pork shoulder for £15 from a local butcher last weekend!Good lord! Find yourself a local butcher who can supply the same cut. £8/kg from T&G is shockingly expensive
I had to trim a little fat and remove a section of spine (not much fsat to trim at all really and the butcher removed the skin), that didn't cost me anything.

My local butcher is very bad with American cuts. Even when they got the spare ribs right in terms of belly ribs, they were still cut in half so they just ended up being baby backs anyways.
Maybe I'll give them one more chance, but my local butchers so far seem to be way off the mark.
Our butchers are very busy too, so they won't experiment I don't think - just keep providing for the masses.

Gonna give my local butchers one last chance. Asked for a 4KG pork shoulder, sent 2 pictures with it which is how I expect it to look. Delivery Friday.
He's priced it at £22-25 I guess depending on the weight once cut
