Asda wagyu?

Post by essexsmoker »

Hi All, saw wagyu steaks and mince in Asda the other day, anyone tried them?

To me they didn't look like wagyu, nowhere near enough marbling. Aldi steaks often have more. They were also about 25 quid a kilo, not 125. Lol.

Any thoughts, testers out there?

£125 per kg is the price for Kobe pure blooded wagyu, where as the ASDA wagyu is Australian (or it was the last time i looked into it). The ASDA Wagyu will be cross bread with something like Black Angus but will still have at least 50% wagyu genetics.

Personally i've been hoping one of the local stores to me will start stocking it as i'm keen to try it and compare it against the other wagyu that i've had.

I didn't think it was proper kobe. Just not enough marbling.
I'm sure it's better than the normal stuff you buy, but is it worth the extra?
Might have to buy some and try it. Asda is a bit of trek so didn't want to waste time if someone had tried it.
Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet. Lol.

I found these guys selling A5 kobe in the UK http://www.finefoodspecialist.co.uk/wag ... ese-wagyu/

I just haven't been able to bring myself to spend that much money on such a small amount of beef.

It is ridiculous money. Lol. Would pay up to about £30 for a nice bit of steak, no more.
