Know what you mean about losing nerve endings. I went through one summer burning my arms pretty much one week to the next by the end of the summer my pain threshold seemed to have raised. Not an experience I particularly want to repeat though.

I've also used some gloves that were sold to us by Clearview Stoves for use with our wood burner. They were reasonably good when I need to play with hot coals.

I just keep thinking, in the 21st century, there must surely be a material that is heat resistant enough to withstand barbecues, but flexible enough for gloves.

Nomex, the stuff F1 drivers and others use. That's what Gloven are made of. I used to use "Coolskin" and they work well, I only have the wrist length not the gauntlet and they work well for indoors. I only went to Gloven as they were a longer gauntlet style

From the look of them, the type of weave they look very much like Coolskin, which as I've said work well. The one complaint (if you can cal it such) I had of Coolskin is that they were not "handed" i.e. the thumb was in line with the fingers as opposed to a normal glove. On the plus side you could use them twice as long as the front could become the back (?) I mean the left "glove" could be worn on the right hand

Awesome - Thanks for that Keith. Yep, for the extra £10, the Nomex certified ones look good (Even if they don't have the cool blue stripes!)

They're just one more part of the glove to get grubby and to try to keep clean. I don't know if this applies to the newer gloves but the older coolskins get better with washing, and they wash up well

The missus bought me these, from Tescos, safe up to 230C, will let you know how they go.
We did have an argument over the colour though.............
