I've done it. After lots of procrastinating I've finally ordered a smoker. I found a WSM18 (Free cover included) and a Weber Chimney starter for £277 inc del, which worked out cheaper than getting an Excel, starter and a cover from macs.
I didn't want to buy from somewhere other than macs as it said I didn't get the full warranty if I did. Where as I could buy a Weber from anywhere and still get the warranty.
Once I get my first smoke going I'll post some pics and maybe a vid. So do I need to burn 1 set of coals on the smoker before I can use it. Also, what's seasoning? I hear this mentioned a lot.
Cheers
Chris

Seasoning is basically the burning off of any manufacturing residue (i.e. your fist set of charcoal as you mention) Stainless steel grates don't need to be seasoned as you would with a cast iron pan or carbon steel wok etc.

[quote="crizmo"]Thanks for the advice guys.
It must be a southern thing London. The otherside of the code is for public school boys up here. I've played it for a season or 2 though and it's still a great game.
Apart from the odd South African or Australian most of the folk on this forum are shandy drinking southern fairies who were indeed sent by pater to public school for a better education. It didn't do 'em any good though as they've ended up in the same back yard as the likes of me and you drinking beer instead of beaujolais and eating BBQ off paper plates with their fingers. Joking aside you should find a warm welcome here from everyone bar STEVE [PIE-EATER] HEYES who doesn't care too much for the primrose and blue. I suppose I'd better run away now before I'm threatened with a jolly good thrashing.

Lot of rubbish.
Now please excuse me I've got to get to Waitrose to get some more sun blush tomatoes.

One wouldn't demean one's hands to use pappa's ebony cane on the likes of you Mr Smoker. It was used on me thrice a day every day and didn't do me a bit of harm wot, eh, mmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Now as to sending one's man to administer said thrashing well that's another matter.

By the way one doesn't use paper plates one gets ones Monogrammed Desden BBQ service out
(ps Sean Edwards is one of my all time sporting heroes, even when he played for Wigan before he came down out of the cold into the sunny climes of the Broncos

Hi crizmo
Im from Oldham so not too far from you. Like rugby league myself , the wire through to cup final again ? And I love gambling - casino , horses , football , two raindrops rolling down a window pain etc.
Just starting out also , got a pro q excel myself last week and bits of kit has been arriving all week with my ET73 and rib rack arriving today .
Great advice on here , ask anything , you will get the answers you need.
Will be doing a test smoke , on my next available day off , then on with the meat.
Good luck.
