I stick it on top of the coals to burn off the residue. However I also place a chimney of hot coals on top of the grate for 10mins. This burns off all rubbish off the grates. I then tip the coals into the BBQ and then brust the ash off with the brush then wipe down the grates with some veg oil and paper towels. As a result there does not tend to be a hard cleaning for the brush and they dont get alot of burnt matter in the bristles. This is only applicable for charcoal grilling.

All fine but my issue was cleaning in the middle of a 3.5 hour hot grill session. I needed the space sans sauce. I think I need to find some tin foil.
