I'm ok with the Weber briquettes, agree about the smell when lighting and yes they can leave a lot of ash but I do find they last a long time and are very reliable, full load on a 47cm WSM can do me for 15 hours easy (and this is without a forced draft system). Price wise they are competitive IF you buy off the net and you buy sufficient quantities to get free post. Heat beads are also very good though tend to be a bit more pricey. Big K restaurant lump is also good - there's a thread here (

I use the Weber grill brush, long handle, quite a bit.
Also strongly recommend paul coulson for wood over Weber stuff.

Plenty of soft drinks, tea or coffee, a pad & pen (old school

) then take plenty of time with the forum search engine going through the posts which will answer the questions you have. Most questions will have been discussed at length in the past so persevere with all the relevant posts. We cannot always remember what advice was given "back in the day" so you may well lose out on sound advice. Then when you have found a new question ask it.

Thanks again for everyones comments,
I took the Plunge last night and hopefully my WSM 57CM should be here by Friday,
I also got the Maverick ET732 and some Gloves as recommended... along with some other Weber gear.
I basically had to build my order up to £500 so just got whatever took my fancy, that way i could take advantage of the 0% Interest offer they had going.
Looking forward to the weekend now,
Cheers
Si

Very good advice from Keith, I probably spent over two and a half weeks reading all the threads before I posted my first question (ok work is very slow and I spend a lot of time in airport lounges and hotels). There is a mass of knowledge in the history which I challenge anyone to remember. I always (well try, if I am not too impatient) use the search function to check before I ask.
The answers are already there (somewhere!!!!!!)

This is not a critisism of you Simon, it applies to a lot of peoples, including me at times..

Good luck with the 57, have never regreted getting mine.
Derek.
