I had a drum recently that had fruit juice in it so didnt bother with a burn out. What I did to get the paint of was get my drill out and attatch a wire brush to it... I'll upload a photo when I finish work in the morning. Its a bit harder work but got all the paint off nice and neatly and left the metal roughed up ready to be painted... I have also read that you can use a flame weed killer to burn it out...
