I actually wanted a Frontier and ordered one from ProQ, they had a supply problem and offered an Excel replacement at the same cost, I took their offer of course.
I do feel that the Excel is a bit too big for "day to day" use for a family of three, more fuel required, probably longer to get up to temp etc. But I do like cooking on it, the space to spread things out, large fire grate to experiment set ups, the general versatility, the solid feel of it. I still would like to try a WSM, just to see why they are rated so highly, but the Excel v Frontier debate is already decided in this house.

If it makes you feel any better, slatts, I'm sure you use FAR less coal in general

I used to own a frontier and a couple of excels, always thought the frontier cooked better than the excel.

So, having pretty much decided to spend £280 on an Excel, I've just noticed I can get a 47cm WSM cheaper than that in some of the end-of-season sales.

My understanding was that the WSM is the next level up from the ProQs? Is that the case? Is a 47cm WSM for £272 a no-brainer?

Well done a decision made. Now for the shock horror part, you do realise the smoker can't live in the front room forever don't you? I ask as this seemed to come as a shock to some members.

My 57cm Ivory Weber kettle arrived this time last year and I managed to keep it in the front room till mid November!
