Feel free to ask any questions, one of the experts will certainly respond, don't be afraid to ask anything, we were all beginners at some point.

Depends what you are planning to do Rob.

We have full 'approval' but you can normally also opt for 'registered' which can even mean using your own kitchen indoors for things as long as you abide by the hygeine rules, have the right wipe clean surface areas and cover all your cc points properly. Basically you have to just be happy that if at any given point EH came round when you were working they wouldn't find anything untoward.

A lot of the small makers and bakers work from home quite lawfully.

What, specifically, were you looking to do?

I was looking to do either cold smoking and charcuterie for onselling or doing pop up barbecue. I have a very small kitchen, two kids and two cats. EH lady seemed doubtful I could use my kitchen for it and that I.would need totally separate areas the cats couldn't get into - impossible unfortunately

Check your local authority regulations, but I believe that if you do less than one catering job in two weeks, you don't need to register as a food business. I 'got away' with that for a couple of years when I was doing shoot lunches for a local game syndicate - a hot three course meal for ten guns and fifteen beaters in the middle of a farmyard in winter. The local E/V dept told me they weren't interested in me provided it was kept low key!
Regs might have changed since then.
