It's more a hard glue that came with the fire rope, but it should work I've been using Sainsburys basics lumpwood all summer. At £1/kg it's great!

Oh right - I'll look out for heat resistant silicone as well then!

Re lumpwood...thought you might have a local fella who handcrafts chunks of charcoaled walnut with his bare teeth for a very reasonable sum
Well, if that supermarket stuff is good enough, I'll know where to go (that Unicorn lump wood is pretty good value - considering it's local woodsman produced - at around £5 for 5 Kg. Those Big K briquettes (fiver from Morrisons) aren't too bad - no chemical smells, but a royal pain to light.
Do you cook in the winter? I'd like to think (once this is in use) I will...might be a bit harder to source charcoal then

I do cook in winter yeah. I'm going to stockpile as much as I can before the end of BBQ season! 40kg or so should keep me going

I've ordered from Liverpool Wood Pellets in the past. Not sure what their current rates are though

Re the wobbly ball valve. I used the same valve on mine and just used my angle grinder to reduce the amount of threads so the nut tightened up fully. I couldn't be bothered to go back out for washers.

That's even easier than grinding the flange off! Glaringly obvious now!
Bit late though as a plumber is passing on that part (with a bit of pipe)...it will do exactly the same thing butlook a little more technical

Thanks yetidave - I'll probably do that too. Most of the supermarkets (haven't tried Sainsburys) only seem to stock briquettes pre drenched in lighter fuel

Aye, that stuff's pants. I've never really used good briquettes to be honest. If we both run out or get stuck during winter, we could always split a delivery of some? Just a thought. It'll be cheaper buying in bulk

What paint did you use? I'm at the outside paint stage with mine. I have high temp paint but it needs to get to 350C to cure. When fired up the other day it hit 182C and just sat there. Im tempted to go for hammerite or something.

Yeah mine said 350 too. I never bothered! It's been several months now and no paint has washed or chipped off
