Sorted apparently it was due to my lack of length on my hot rod poked a bit through the hole and voila we have smoke.

Was it Jacky that told you it was a length issue?

Women often tell me it's a length issue.

Shame it's not a Traeger they are talking about...

Chris__M wrote:While this is excellent advice, note also that some of us have recently been discussing other sources of control boards suitable for 240V - these being the digital boards, rather the 3 way switch board the Traeger comes with.

I got a price from Germany at 199 euros + 10 euros carriage - that includes VAT.

rding got a much keener price from Australia of 93 quid, but you'd have to add carriage, duty and tax onto that. I'm guessing that Oz will probably work out cheaper, but with a minor hassle factor that you are importing it into the EU. Note that the German price is actually in line with the standard US price for these controllers, although I've seen them for much less.

However, it does mean that even without a local source of 240V control boards, there are alternatives. Presumably these sources can also supply replacement hot rods, once Jackie's stock runs out.

I also contacted Ortech in the States, to see if they were considering producing a 240V version of their new board, but they have no plans for this at present.

Just picking up on this older thread, I have just ordered to 240v Digital Controller from the New Zealand Distributor, Tim Woods is the guys name and he has been really helpfull, unfortunately the Aussie Distributor never responded to my email. The total cost for the controller including the RTD Sensor, Shipping etc works out at 250NZD about £125 + any possible Import Duty. If anyone else is interested drop an email to Tim, his details are on the Traeger site and I'm sure he'll sort you out.

Thanks for the tip, I'd like to stick the digital controller on mine at some point.

I'm away from Friday 6th May for a fortnight, Tim has quoted 7-10 days delivery so it will probably be stuck in customs until we get back. Once fitted I'll try and give some feedback, although my smoking experience is very limited being a newbee!

As it happens, I recently gave into temptation and ordered the digital from Germany. This works out more expensive than your NZ price - 176 GBP roughly, but I decided I didn't want the potential hassle and cost of customs. I'm betting yours will still come out cheaper, in the long run.

Chris

When I did a search for the German Distributor I couldn't find anything on the internet, but I imagine cost wise they will probably be pretty similar. I'll post the total costs once I know how much I've been collared by Customs. Any news when yours arrives?

Like many German companies, they seem to prefer International Bank Transfers to things like credit cards and PayPal. As a result, I had to finally learn what to do with an IBAN number, and I am currently waiting for the bank transfer to go through.

Once that happens (hopefully Friday, but with our bank holidays, it may be Tuesday), they say they will despatch from stock.

Their website is at http://www.grillkatalog.de/ but there is no online purchasing that I can see, although to be fair, I don't speak german, so I may have missed it. I emailed them my requirements, and they emailed me a proforma invoice and bank details. Apart from the bank transfer, it was fairly painless. The cost of the digital kit was 199 euros, with 10 euros carriage. As Germany is in EU, there will be no customs/VAT to pay.

I was getting on fairly well with the 3 way manual control, and also had ideas for my own controller, but in the end I decided to splash the cash on this.
