Have never injected meat before but know a couple of nurses, would any type of needle do the job? It feels like a silly question, but the injections you get for going abroad etc don't come flooding back out so pressumably these are thin enough for other meat too lol!

No, they will be too fine for this sort of work and liable to snap inside the meat if you're not careful.
If you have a local agricultural shop near you, go get some thick needles and big syringes ... the only reason it spurts back out is that you are trying to pump lots of liquid into a solid mass of meat ... you don't tend to do this when getting a flu jab!!
Best to look for meat injecting kits on the internet as they usually have holes in the sides and tip of the needle and make life a lot easier

On a 4-5 Kilo Butt I typically use about 1 litre. That is probably a little conservative.
Myron Mixon uses 8 Gallons on a Whole Hog
Good luck

Adie should possibly think of changing his facebook name to The Bank Of Beer!

I use around double the amount Adie does. It will literally inflate the shoulder up to almost double size but a lot does flow out while I'm resting it before rubbing.
I used to inject a lot less but got the tip to hit it up with more while over in the US. I use a lot less when doing brisket though.
