Yeti dave,
used it last weekend mixed 50 /50 with apple on a pork shoulder and thought it was really good, great depth from the mesquite but the apple giving a lighter touch, heartily recommend.

Cheers

I really like mesquite on its own with meaty spare ribs, use it with a carolina style dry rub and I finish with my spicy Dr pepper bbq sauce. It seems to really compliment the sauce and accentuates the sugars and mellows the chilli in my rub.

But mat my new found chum,
Dr pepper is the urine of beezelbub himself how can you let it near your bbq?

Dr pepper so misunderstood?

No I understand carbonated demonic urine with some washing up liquid stirred in to improve the flavour.........:)

Cheers

Dr pepper bbq sauce

(doesn't really taste of Dr pepper for all u haters lol, just couldn't think of a name, may think of a new one)

Ingredients

I use a plastic t spoon / tablespoon measurer and American cups.

You can find most of the stuff either online spice shops or amazon (molasses) and supermarkets, well worth buying in 100g ammounts as they are quite cheap and last you a good long while. I store mine in a dark cupboard in cheap ikea kilner jars (less than a £1).

2 cups dr pepper
80g (1/2 cup) soft brown sugar
2  tablespoons blackcurrent preserve
3 tablespoons blackstrap molasses 4 t spoons worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 t spoon black pepper
1/8 t spoon ground cumin
1 t spoon onion powder
1/4 t spoon garlic powder
(optional 1/4 t spoon celery seeds, something i added to my latest sauce)
1/2 t spoon mustard powder
4 t spoons maldon salt
1/2 t spoon cayenne
1/2 t spoon dry oregano
1/2 to 3/4 t spoon dried habenero (packed down) you could substitute for some fresh scotch bonnet
1  1/4 cups of cheap ketchup
2 tablespoons honey
(optional 1 1/2 t spoon liquid smoke, mesquite or whatever)
3 tablespoons dark rum    (also optional but highly recommend!)

Method

Put dr pepper, honey, molasses and sugar in a pan and reduce to 1 1/2 cups, then add the rum and cook for another couple mins, add rest of ingredients and simmer for 15 mins. Let it cool and enjoy, better the next day.
