Thanks for the info. I don't know a lot about the internals of how the PID algorithm works - but i'll have a fiddle with it. There is a PID auto-tune library for Arduino:
http://playground.arduino.cc/Code/PIDAutotuneLibrary
I'm not sure what method it uses though.

Have you tried the autotune algorithm? I've always wondered how some of those would work on something with such a slow response time. I suppose with blowers, the up-side resonse could be pretty fast. With a ceramic grill, temperature drop is always very slow. Thus, it is of great interest never to overshoot...

Aris and Eric,
You know a conversation between say.....Chewbacca and r2d2.......that's you 2 that is......
Respect to you both, I have not the first clue what either of you is on about, I have the same issues with the engineers at work who try and explain to which I reply "smashing, can you just make it go faster and stop less please"
It is a skill I shall never have but I doff my cranial apparellel to you both!
Cheers

That's hilarious that you posted this. A coworker of mine (another engineer) showed me that last week because its EXACTLY like our day to day experiences with management.
Outstanding!

Gents,
Sadly typical of the "that will never work", "it will need a whole new unit" and "4 hours tops guvna" attitudes I get from our folk at work, they seem to dismiss my suggestions such as "add more lubricant" as uninformed.......
Great clip well done
Cheers
