Re: Your Favouitre Fuel Source And Why?
All last year I was using Asda briquettes which were great, then I got four bags of lump from KamadoSimon, they smell great when burning and make a good difference to the taste but they didn't perform too well in my UDS so I just use the lump for the BBQ Grilling.
I have tried some other briquettes, the Tesco ones are terrible, they look crap and they fall apart and don't burn for too long so back to the Asda ones and back to good performance

From what I read Saturday is a bit more laid back as it's part training course for new teams I think it's Anything Butt around 5pm but take that as dodgy as I haven't read it in a while. Hopefully Ed will be back soon...
Found it!!!!

Saturday is a more relaxed day of getting, normally quite a slow paced morning as we all get over our hang overs from the night before, and then start getting all your big meats prep'd to go on later that evening with anything butt and dessert happening between 1pm & 5pm depending on what else is going on.

Looking at the team entry form for MIM earlier in the year, Anything But was the only side category so i would imagine it will be the same for August.
Hopefully Toby will be on here a bit later to clarify.

Hi guys,
its currently the main 4, chicken, ribs, pork and brisket on the sunday as mentioned by Ed and keith. The saturday is currently just anything butt which will be about 4pm however I may throw in a dessert just to spanner things up a bit or create a mystery ingredient round.
full rules and comp guide can be found at www.pitmasters.co.uk but of course feel free to ask any questions on here!

I really like the sound of the mystery round - present each team with a box of meat and/or just veg and see what they can do with it. I appreciate it would take some organising but I would think every team would be happy to pay an extra £x for the mystery box for that round.

Look forward to judging that round
Re: Your Favouitre Fuel Source And Why?
Hey guys
Sorry ive been busy with work and what not over the last few weeks so not many posts on my behalf!
I have however managed to get a few cooks under my belt during this time. One cook i did ribs and chicken wings. Second was oven cooked pork belly finished on the grill (will upload photos to grilling section shortly...they are worth a peek trust me).
Anyway back to my point! After reading some of the reviews of the Heat Beads i decided to take the plunge and buy some...can i just say that they are incredible!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
I did have trouble starting my chimney something that hasnt happenend in a long time for. I had to use in total nine sheets of newspaper to get the chimney going. I was inside the house cursing the heat beads and stormed out with more newspaper only to see the briquettes burning away beautifully, they were burning so clean that i thought they wernt even alight.
After 10/15 mins in the chimney i placed then briquettes in my UDS added my cheery wood and placed my ribs on the grate. After 1hr 45min i went out to "spritz" my ribs with apple juice and check temperature...AND WHAM!!! my thermometer was sitting exactly at 250f! i spritz my ribs added a little more wood and chucked on 15-20 chicken wings and covered again. I returned and hour later to 250f exactly on the temp gauge again and perfectly cooked ribs and chicken! Result!!! I now will never go back to forecourt briquettes. Heat Beads are a little more expensive but in this case you definitely get what you pay for.
I would recommend buying them in bulk also as the delivery charge was expensive (as youd expect for a 7KG package) but buying in bulk will work out a lot cheaper in the long run.
Hope this helps
Marc
