Hi all,
I've got a 6kg brisket in the fridge that's begging to be smoked. I ain't got a leave in thermometer though. Which one is best? Wanna cook it this Sunday ready for Monday so need to get one ordered tomorrow at the latest really.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I am a Newbie and a couple of weeks ago lots of people on here recommended the Thermapen to me.
Ordered it in the afternoon of 8th June and it arrived 10th. (I'm in NI) I couldn't do without it.
Here is the thread and info re the discount.

Apols I don't knew how to copy it so you can clip on it and go to it. It's in the BBBQS News Forum.

Thanks for the replies. Had a look at the Thermapen but would really like something I can leave in the meat with the digital display outside of the smoker. One reason is so that I can check the temp without opening the lid thus avoiding loosing heat and another reason, which is a little geeky, is that I'd like to set a web cam up on it when doing a long smoke as I'm self employed and can easily pop home to whip the meat off and wrap it up.
Any good leave in thermometers. Not fussed on cost so long as it's not stupid. Don't want a cheap piece of crap but also don't need one made of gold:-)

I also bought a Maverick ET 732.
Allows me to monitor both the internal temp of my Weber and the internal temp of the victim.
Again there is a number of threads on the Maverick, problem for your timeline is it took mine (ordered from US via ebay) a fortnight to arrive.
The beauty of the Maverick is it has a transmiter and allows you to set max and min temps, so you can leave the cook and watch the tennis and it will alert you when the internal temp of your smoker falls outside the max and min you set and when the meat reached "cooked" temp.

Ah, that's sounding pretty sweet. I'll do some searches and see if I can find one but looks like I may have to get a Thermapen or similar to tide me over for the weekend.

The Maverick is the current stand out device for what you're looking for, but you will be lucky to get one so quickly unless Mac's BBQ has some in stock.
ETI, the company behind Thermapens have a new remote probe thermo coming out this year which looks like it will be awesome, but it's not going to help you for this weekend.
Your other option is to buy a cheap one for this weekend then keep it as a backup and buy a either a Mav or the new Bluetherm when it comes out. You can pick up a cheap one from ETI or another catering supplier.
Sorry I can't help you more.

I have both the Thermapen and the Maverick and couldn't do without either. You will not end up with a Thermapen that becomes redundant when your Maverick arrives.

Fair enough. Sound advice.
Anyone come across this by the way? Seems pretty sweet.
