Sweet paprika

Found this 180g can of sweet paprika at TK Maxx of all places. Very reasonable £2.49 - sadly not smoked, but still a good price

Sweet paprika adds a different flavour, I tend not to use smoked if I'm using apple or cherry as it could (in my limited experience) mask or conflict with the wood smoke flavour. A greta buy though, it can even be used on foods other than BBQ :o :lol:

I agree - it is like a Jumble sale. But sometimes you get some cracking deals - particularly on kitchenware. I got a huge heavy based Meyer Commercialware solid aluminum pan for 15 quid. A few scuffs on it - but great for using outdoors. I also saw a few things which could be re-purposed for BBQ use - like small (about 1.5ft) miniature galvanised rubbish bins. I'm considering using one of these as a coal holder in my UDS (with some holes punched into it).

Saw some racks which could be re-purposed as rib racks in a smoker too.

Yep got a flour dredger for £1.50 which is great for shaking rub on, yes I know habds work as well but hey :D

I got a large holed spice shaker (came as a set with a sugar pourer) from Poundland some years ago. Works a treat for rub!

Just gotta keep your eyes open and think out of the box.

Please don't use anything galvanised in your smoker, the temperatures cause the zinc to create toxic compounds, not the extra flavour you want

Yes I remember some controvesy about using galvanised bins as smokers a while back. Good point though and worth repeating especially for some of the newer members :D

I'm aware of the dangers in welding with galvanised steel, but I don't think smoker would reach those temperatures. I suppose the risk is not worth it though.

I would think that a total avoidance would be the best course in case someone fits a high output gas burner to a galvanised smoker and causes themselves problems.
