Charcoal bargain of the century

In Sainsbury's on Sunday, buying some clothes for the kids, which we got from the customer service desk at the back. I'd got a load of wine too (25% for 6 bottles), and the lady says we can pay for it all there at the desk.

Me Julie asks if I'd got all the wine for Christmas, and I said yes, and a few bottles for barbecues over the autumn. The lady at the counter says "Oh, are you still having barbecues? Do you want some charcoal?"

They' had a couple of damaged bags round the back they just want to shift. They put them out for staff to buy a few days earlier, but no one was interested.

Two bags of Sainsbury's briquettes (normal, not the dodgy self-lighting stuff). One 6kg, the other 3kg. £0.99 and £0.49.

I bit her hand off. When she put the through the till they'd been reduced further.

Total price for 9kg £0.47.

Thank you and good night.

Every silver lining has a cloud.

When we got home from Sainsbury's, it transpired that Julie's daughter (18 going on 6) had left the door to the garage freezer open for a couple of days. Not the worst damage in the world, only about £15 worth of food down the toilet.

Funnily enough, about the same amount as I saved on the charcoal.

Bah, I say. Bah humbug!
