WERE I ever to do it I'd experiment with own brand cheapo (it might improve the flavour) until I was sure it worked, besides if you are making a cocktail you'd probably get away with the cheapo stuff.
As to mixing anything with good bourbon it's only ever ice cold "sour mash" 8-)
