Ive read up loads on how to make my own smoker from 45 gallon drums etc. I have drawn up my plans and I think it should cost me around £150 quid all in. And I honestly think I csn make it and it'll work. Now money is pretty tight in my house but I am now thinking if im spending that amount of money should I just buy one like the landman tennesse smoker for just a bit more money? I think I am swaying towards just buying one. And then a bit further down the line attempt to make one... what do you all think?

Cant give you advice on building, but I bought the landmann at the start of the last season. Whilst relatively happy with the results it has aged horribly. Even though covered it has started to rust and from what I am told looks about it has stood 5 years in the rain. I think a sturdy uds will get you more smoking fun. Much as I hate to say it, if you could get an 57cm weber kettle in one of the early season sales reckon this would be he best starter unit if you decide against the build.

I see a lot of people talking about webber bbqs. Im going to check them out. I do think I will build a uds to be honest. I think it'll feel even more satisfying esting off your own creation even if the food turns a bit crap haha. I will keep posting updates as I build it... well as soon as I figure out how to up load photos

There are lots of members who have built their own UDS' and will be willing to help no doubt

Until I have everyrhing here that I need to build my bbq im reading as much info as I can from all over the place. Just got a quick question. As for attaching hinges and things what works best bolts, rivets, welding or I saw one person who said he used a soldering gun with a solder that was high melt and could withstand 300 degrees.

What Stretchie has said is how it should be !!!
I looked at his post, and I would not do it any diff!!!!!
I have built a few UDS and the only one I have done diff is a state secret and I will post later, maybe, sometime, ish.
Love your post Stretchie giving info to the forum, that's what it's all about!!!
