Hey Everyone,

At Grillstock I bought the BBQ Guru Party Q, and got it home and plotted how to fit the thing.. punch a hole in the side of the weber OTP and fit it.. nice and easy I thought.

So I bought a hole saw, and new drill for the task and drilled the pilot hole, and for the next 5 minutes sat there drilling away until I noticed that the hole saw had just blunted itself against the weber! Hardy things it seems! So upon a bit more research it seems that I need either a tungsten carbide or diamond edged hole saw to do the job.

Has anyone else done this? What did you use? Can you recommend a hole saw and arbor/mandrel for the job?

Not used one, or even seen one, but can you not attach it somehow to an existing vent. Just a thought.

There's pics of it attaching to the top vents, but that's the exhaust vent and pushing air/smoke back into the bbq from there doesn't seem like a great idea to me. Bottom vents are the long ones and it won't fit properly.

Derek, with the Weber with ash catchers, the vents are rod controlled and not circular so it won't fit.. My only suggestion would be to explain what you want on the phone to a tool hire company and see if they have something you can hire, rather than spending a fortune on a drill set you may never use again.
The other idea would be to have a browse through Yellow Pages (Yell.com) for metal fabricators either for advice or for them to drill the hole for you.
Sorry, no better ideas.

Tool hire is a good shout Keith, I've already spent a fortune on various bits trying to do this! Didn't realise webers were actually so tough :S

Tommo I think you might have hit the right idea, it should work, but haven't tried it.

Just in case anyone finds this thread, I finally managed to do it by:

1. pilot hole with a HSS drill bit,

2. Bought these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C ... UTF8&psc=1

3. Used the largest on and drilled a 22mm hole in it.. they worked like a charm.
