Hi all,

Im/were having a party in a couple of weeks and i will be doing most the cooking on the OTP and SWMBO will be doing the rest on the hob!
It's not a big party maybe 8 adults and 8 kids, so what sort of things would you serve?
Im doing 1 pulled pork shoulder and 4 racks of ribs with 2 differnt rubs on them ,salt and pepper ribs for the kids and my usual home made rub for the adults.
As a side im doing creamed corn (nom nom nom) and bought colslaw

So other than these things what else do you serve?

Thanks
Andy

A good salsa & warm potato salad always feature chez maiaon. Also if you look under the veg section I've mentioned grilling sliced jacket spuds.

We quite often do ABTs but use sweet peppers in place of the jalapenos, always a winner. Fatties and/or moinks are good with kids. BBQ beans maybe as another side.

I often do sweet potato chips.

Peel the sweet poatoes, cut them into VERY big chunk chips. Put them in a roasting pan, drizzle over some olive oil and add some s&p. Toss around until covered.

Hot oven (220c) for 30 minutes or so.

My dear old chap,
Sounds splendid, but one word was a dagger to my culinary heart......"bought" bought coleslaw is more often than not the toenail scrapings of beezlebub himself swamped in a lardy mayo.

I am assuming your pulled pork and ribs to be a thing of porky loveliness, thinly sliced white cabbage, red onion cut hair thin and a grating of carrot and the sharpest green apple you can find, dress sparingly with mayo or olive oil, cider vinegar and a little French mustard and suddenly your awesome pork is in a party in my mouth and everyone is invited.

Make the slaw its an easy win

and for me add a tater salad, small new spuds, finely shredded spring onion, a few capers and small chunks of hot dog sausage to properly knobble any sneaky veggies!

Go well soldier.........
Cheers
Tiny

Thanks for the responces guys
I must say i didn't realise slaw was so easy to make, even easier as i have a kenwood food processor!

I also like the idea of the potato salad with the adition of hotdog chunks ;)
And the grilled sliced baked potato.
We already do the sweet potato's that way when we have chicken and roast veg and i think that was already on SWMBO's list.

So thanks again and i think this will be the best party yet thanks to great ideas.

Smoked potatoes work well - smoke for a couple of hours and finish baking in the oven. This pepper stout beef recipe has been doing the rounds here http://wolfepit.blogspot.co.uk/2009/10/ ... -beef.html - smoke it up and cook in advance, it reheats really well. Cornbread's easy and quick enough to make and a good side (even better if you've a cast iron skillet to cook it in)

Oh and GREAT recipe I found in Big Bob Gibson's BBQ book - charcoal fired sweet potatoes. Just put them straight on the hot coal without wrapping in foil and turn them after about 15 minutes, the skin will blacken and crisp up. Then slice in half and drizzle on butter mixed with maple syrup, cinnamon, a dash of chilli powder and almond slivers. They look really impressive and taste out of this world
