The hospital I work at recently felled a Western Red Cedar that was starting to pose a threat. As such, they logged the trunk and branches and left them for whomever wanted them. I took a few in the hopes of chipping some of them up for the barbecue. What I'm wondering though is from sitting in the corner of a carpark for so many years, what is the likelihood that the tree has pick up toxins in its roots from let's say the asphalt, or if the leads picked up any exhaust from the cars.

Can anyone think of a reason why this wood would be unsafe to use?

Anyone?

I'm not sure it's anything many, if any, of us have come across. I'd suggest maybe getting in touch with a tree surgeon or the woodland trust who may be able to help.

Its also a very subjective subject.
For instance, when we go Sloe picking, we have spent years looking for areas AWAY from any main road. I personally wouldnt pick any fruit from the road side, but you do see lots of people doing it.
In this case its "each to their own" I believe.
