22" WSM Cooking capacity?

Hi all,

I want to cook the maximum amount of pork butts on a single 22"WSM cook (to feed a party).

Does anyone have any experience/advice on how much pork butt I can successfully simultaneously smoke on the thing, or any useful cooking tips for large batches? e.g how severe the effect on the cooking time is likely to be?

It's my first large scale cook, so all pointers gratefully received.

Thanks,

Steve

On my WSM, i did 2 pork butts on the lower shelf. They each weighed nearly 10 pounds i think.

if i was to fill my WSM with pork butts, I'd probably buy 4, but you can no doubt squeeze more in i imagine.

I agree with Joe, 4 10lb chunks of meat is about right.

This is a link to the Virtual Weber Bullet site regarding capacity.

You can fit 6 x 5kg pork butts on the big wsm (i've had to a few times). if you're loading it up that much you'll need to move things around as they'll touch a bit and also allow an extra couple of hours onto the cooking time.

just in case anyone else wants to know, you can fit 4 x pork butts on a 18" wsm.

+1 on Ed's answer.

6 is the most I've had in there.
