Hi All
I was reading some posts by Thunderdomebbq.com on the web and really liked a toy he was using called the Vortex.
So me being me I decided to make one myself, I couldn't find anything suitable in the scrapheap so I got a old 8in terracotta pot and cut it off 5ins down from the top, set this on the charcoal rack of my kettle drum, chucked in 5lit pieces of charcoal and the filled it with unlit.
I placed rubbed chicken legs all round the edge of the cooking grate and opened all the vents and placed two small pieces of apple wood over the centre of the now raging fire.
Man did that baby cook some good chicken!!!
The fire got that hot that it blew holes in the clay pot, but smoky chicken with crispy skin was so worth it.
Second incarnation of this toy being built but from metal this time.

Hi Keith
Not just quick cooks he uses it for L+ S by turning it upside down and running a Snake fire set up around it and positioning the meat directly over the top.

I bought one of these through Mad Hunky Meats last week, just waiting for it to arrive from the US. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Hi All
After blowing apart 1 Terracotta pot and 1 Cimmney pot due to the intense heat given off, I made the 3rd Vortex out of the top of and old Potbelly type Hibachi bbq.
In the future all my smallish Chicken cooks will be done this way, you have got to give this toy a try!
Will post some pic's on my FB page later.
