Minion vs Snake

Have done some indirect cooking on my kettle, but want to try a more low and slow method. I'm guessing there is no point in doing this until I get a thermometer? But the question still stands Minion or Snake, and if it is snake, how does the snake method ever have enough lit coals to get any heat?

I've done snake, or as I now prefer to call it the fuse on my OTP, got to 7 and a half hours and ran out of time so banged it in the oven to finish. Had about an hour left of coals i reckon. Running about 115 I think.
I find about 8 to 10 briquettes is enough.

The thick snake method works well in Webers and can give you a consistent even cooking temperature for 8 hours or more. You do need to use a good quality briquette though. I only use Heat Beads these days as they have a long slow burn with plenty of heat. Posting pictures here is a bit of a pain so I have sent you a couple of links in PM that may help.
